Where do I even begin with this one? On first glance this might seem like "just another red" and in all fairness and logic; it is. However, this is the perfect red. Coming from a red nail polish lover like me, that is not an easily made statement.
Many of you will have heard of Chanel's now infamous "Dragon" red. Long since discontinued it's been touted as the most perfect true red ever made and several of you might have heard customers disappointedly leave a Chanel counter after finding out there won't be a replenishing of their favourite polish after all. I know I have. It seems a bit silly so long after it's discontinuation, but not everyone keeps a pulse on these things like us.
Rouge Ruby is as true a red as they come. Truly neutral, not a dark red and not a light red. Just.. red! It's quite bright, but not in your face. It's young and fresh, but still elegant and classy. This is the kind of nail polish you could purchase 10 of and give to every woman you know of any age, personality and personal style.. and they'd probably all end up loving it in their own special way.
The polish is not just extraordinary in terms of colour - the quality is also there to back it up. It applies smoothly and evenly without any problem of any kind. With a thicker first coat you could leave it at that, full opacity, though I personally prefer two thinner coats. It's also really fast-drying. Make sure to correct any mistakes at once, because going "back in" is not an option. By the time you've applied a coat to all your nails the polish will be half dried already and touch ups will only ruin the finish.
Staying power is where this falls a bit short, minor chipping started on the second day (after shopping, cooking and a bit of housework though mind you!). I would of course love it to stay perfect for up to a week at a time, but since it's such a hassle free polish to apply I don't mind.
Though I don't ever buy back-ups as a bit of a non-official rule I've been seriously considering this one. It's just perfect in every way. I know I tend to recommend Chanel polishes left and right, and I really do love most of them, but if you buy only one polish this year - I'd make it this one. You will love it. Love it.
