Review: Chanel Les 4 Ombres Multi-Effect Quadra Eyeshadow in 226 Tisse Rivoli

As much as I love Chanel, the one thing that never tempted me was their eyeshadows - at least the European version available over here. I went through a few quads in my teenage years when I was considerably less sceptical, but after getting more "serious" about makeup the powdery and almost invisible baked formula wasn't on my wish list. Imagine then my excitement when Chanel finally re-formulated their eyeshadows and released 8 beautiful new quads this spring.

I went back and forth for a while when trying to decide which of the quads to try first, and was naturally tempted to try more than one, but managed to stick to just the 226 Tisse Rivoli as a first try.

The eyeshadows come in typical Chanel packaging - black with the white logo on top and that's it. There's a sticker showing the colours and some information on the bottom. It comes in a black velvet pouch, also typical of Chanel powder products. The size is the same as the previous quads, also the same as their Joues Contraste powder blushes.

Tisse Rivoli is, to me, a perfect combination of colours. That means, in my language, that it's a complete palette, meaning I can use it alone without any need of additional shadows to complete the look. One can, of course, if one so chooses, but there is absolutely no need.

You get the all over-lid colour in the medium intensity - the bottom left one. There is a shiny lighter highlight colour - top right. Then there is a slightly darker shimmery colour to use through the crease - top left, and a darker matte to intensify the look even more - bottom right. This is of course not the only way to use these colours. One can use just the bottom left colour all over and leave it like that. Or take the top left one all over with the matte dark bottom right through the crease for an evening look. Either way, there are tons of different looks that can be done with this, and there truly won't be any need for pulling out any other shades unless you have one you are desperate to use.

Application is effortless with the lighter shades. They apply smooth, even and the edges blend easily. I have struggled a bit more with the darker shades. They can apply a tad patchy and have at times been difficult to blend out nicely, especially the darkest one. I've found applying a bit more powder across the lid than usual mostly fixes the problem, and when doing it this way I've found all the colours truly enjoyable to use.

The finished look is "very Chanel". The tones of every shade goes together with the other perfectly. It gives a very polished and sophisticated look. I would absolutely recommend this for use at the office. Especially as the lasting power is one of the best I've ever come across. This stays put all day. No joke. I've seen no creasing, smudging or even a tiny bit of fading. It's crazy! I look flawless 8 hours later. I don't even use an eyeshadow primer, just Mac Painterly Paint Pot, like I always do.

As a huge Chanel fan, and one with a relatively large selection of their products, I'm beyond excited I can finally dive into their eyeshadows as well. After being so overly impressed with these I am definitely going to buy more of the colours! If you are on the fence about these I highly recommend having a look! I can't speak for the overall quality as I've so far only tested this one (yet), but Tisse Rivoli is definitely getting a huge stamp of approval from me!
