August has been a long month. We've gone from full-on summer to colder fresh fall winds by the end. I went to Rome for a week, started school and then finally rounded it all up by getting the flu. I've officially been knocked out for a week and I feel horribly stressed by everything I've got to do to catch up, but I'm sure I'll be alright soon enough. If you were wondering why there was a lack of updates on the blog, now you also know why. Through the changing weather and daily routines I've switched out a lot of products, but a few items have been used solidly from beginning til end and those are the ones I will be sharing with you today.
I've stuck to my Chanel Joues Contraste in 65 Espiegle this month as it's part of my use-it-up project. I was worried I'd get sick of it, but I still love applying it every morning. Espiegle has been a favourite blush of mine for the longest time. It's the perfect mix of pink and peachy and gives a warm pink flush to the cheeks. The baked formula let's me apply a very sheer hint of colour, but it can also be built up for more impact. I usually have to be very careful with blush as I'm very pale, but Espiegle looks very nice built up contrasting my pale skin. I've loved pairing it with a very neutral look otherwise - it gives a very fresh and modern look.
For these natural makeup looks there's just nothing that beats modern classic Burberry Pale Barley Eyeshadow ( here ). I've applied this very sheer taking it slightly through the crease and blending the edges very well. This gives definition to the eye without it looking like you're wearing much of anything at all. Pale Barley can also be built up for more colour, and is just as beautiful this way. Add to that the superiority in quality of Burberry eyeshadows and this is an absolute winner.
Another old favourite is the Dior Grege Nail Polish ( review - here ). The taupe beige colour has been a perfect colour for the in-between season as it's not summer-bright, nor fall-dark - neither of which I felt like were right anymore or just yet. Dior has re-vamped their entire nail polish range since I bought this, so the formula is changed, but one of their sales assistants told me they would keep the colour so you should still be able to get this. I highly recommend it, I've worn it a lot since getting it - to the point I think I actually might finish this one day! *After trying to find a link to it it looks like it is being discontinued after all as it's nowhere. I've found a link to it on Amazon, so if anyone's interested I guess you'll have to be quick!
Me using the Caudalie Vinosource Serum ( review - here ) is actually also me going back to an old favourite - I'm sensing a theme! I used this a few years back and while it gave me an amazing glow, it wasn't what my skin needed at that moment otherwise. Now though, it's been perfect. It's made my skin radiant and amazingly even. It's also helped with the texture of my skin. I've enjoyed this sample enormously and am definitely planning on buying the full-size again.
Omorovicza is slowly becoming one of my favourite brands. I've talked about the Omorovicza Balancing Moisturiser ( review - here ) before, but had to include it here. I've used this almost everyday the past month and it's just fantastic. It keeps skin matte, but hydrated. I've noticed a clear improvement in the texture of my skin when using this and my skin just feels better. I'm worried this won't be enough moisture-wise when fall really rolls around, so I am considering getting either their Elemental Emulsion or the Illuminating Moisturiser.
The Omorovicza Complexion Perfector BB SPF 20 ( here ) was featured last month as well. I won't go into too much detail as I will probably repeat myself, but I still had to include it as I've used it almost every day. This is just fantastic! This not only looks unbelievably good and natural - it also makes my skin better. When I remove this at night my skin doesn't look tired like it can sometimes look when I've worn makeup all day, skin just looks healthy, plump and radiant. I can't get enough, it's brilliant!
Finally I have a perfume. The Hermes - Jour d'Hermes Absolu ( here ) is a beautiful warm floral, with apricot blossom making it more fresh and fruity. It's fresh and uplifting, but has a lot of warmth and personality as well. It's a stunning scent that I highly recommend trying out. Quality wise it also lasts all day, on me at least, and the bottle is a beauty as well. I've not looked too much at Hermes' fragrance offerings in the past, but I must say I am very intrigued now after falling in love with this one.
So there you have it - my favourite products for the month of August! Fall is my favourite time of the year, so I am really looking forward to lighting candles and cuddling up under a blanket. Starting school this time has been an odd mix of exciting and terrifying as this is the last year before I'm finished. I've decided I want to try and really appreciate the freedom I in reality have as a student (though it doesn't always feel that way) and try to let myself just have some fun and not always worry about being ahead. I'm not sure if I can, but I want to try. Other than that I've got quite an exciting September coming up with a little travel so there might be a few new favourites next month! Until then - I wish you all a good start to the "new year"!
