I went through my makeup last month and found a few things to get rid of again. The way things are going with me buying a lot less makeup overall, using stuff up and being able to "let go" of more and more stuff I think I might have a much more condensed and manageable "collection" by the end of the year, which is very exciting to me. I also finished quite a few skincare items and other bits that I've been working on for a while, like a face mask. There's also a few staples in here. Overall it's a good one, and one I hope to match next month!
Yves Saint Laurent Lip Liner in '11' 1.11g ( here )
This was a nice enough lip liner. I bought it to go with the lipstick pictured here as well, and they were an ok match, not perfect. This has unfortunately melted and become an absolute mess, so I am getting rid of it.
Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupte in '12' 4g ( here )
This one is just old. I've used a fair bit, and I did love it for a while, but now it's time to go. It was always very creamy and soft, but now it literally just goes everywhere. I like the Rouge Voluptes for the insane pigment, but they don't hold up very well. This colour is really cool though!
Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in 'Muse' 3g ( here )
This one I'm giving up on. I bought it when these liquid lipsticks were released, having been swayed by all the hype, especially surrounding this particular shade. While the colour is amazing - a super bright and intense coral, the formula I just can't get along with. When this dries down, if I rub my lips together, eat, drink, talk - it starts coming off in flakes. You can't even fix it, without rubbing everything off and starting over again. I've tried every way of wearing this, including mixing it with lipbalm, but it just looks horrible, so I'm over it.
NYX Xtreme Lip Cream in 02 Candy Land 7ml ( here )
This is a similar matte liquid lipstick. The formula is nice, much nicer than the Hourglass, and so much cheaper. The reason I'm getting rid of this is the colour is incredibly unflattering on me. So why bother then? Makeup is supposed to make you feel better about your face situation, not worse.
Kaplan MD Lip 20 Treatment Gloss in 'Rosewood Sparkle' ( here )
This I've actually used up! This is actually the second of these sample tubes I've used up. I've also got a full size. Can you tell I love this? It has a really nice mint scent, feels really good and moisturising on the lips, the colour is super flattering and it's got SPF 20 which is always a plus. I really urge you to check these glosses out, or any Kaplan MD products if you have the chance - all the ones I've tried are superb!
Dior Addict Crystal Gloss in 087 6.3ml ( here )
This was a gift I received from Dior so I don't think it's something you can buy as I've never seen it anywhere? It had a very particular formula - almost gel like. On the lips it would kind of melt and feel oil like, though it wouldn't bleed or anything like that. For some reason I hate not having any product on my lips, but if my lips aren't feeling dry I don't like to slather on lip balm as I feel it's not good to bathe any part of your body in permanent moisturising products if it doesn't need it. So this I've loved using when my lips were not dry, but I wanted to have something on my lips. I've got another tube in a slightly different, though clear as well colour that I'm onto next. I'll really miss these two when they are gone. I wish Dior would sell them.
Dior Iconic Overcurl Mascara 10ml ( review - here )
I think this has definitely become my favourite mascara. This is the second or third tube and I can't wait to re-purchase. I've got quite a few mascara samples still that I'd like to go through before re-purchasing this, but I'd really love to just use this as it's the.best.mascara.ever. For my lashes at least.
Guerlain Maxi Lash Mascara ( review - here )
A mascara I like, but don't love. It's up there though, definitely, and I've bought and used the full-size in the past, but it's just not as good as the Overcurl, in my opinion. Gives nice fluttery lashes though, and is good for a more natural look.
No7 Amazing Eyes Pencil in 10 Brown ( here )
I don't use brown eyeliner. If I use eyeliner, I use black. As this is very cool toned I had the idea of maybe using it up as a brow pencil, but it's too soft and it all ended up looking very unnatural. So I've decided to just be done with it. It was free as a gift-with-purchase after all, so no need to force myself to use it when I don't really like it.
MUA 3 in 1 eXtreme Contour Liner 0.4g ( gift-with-purchase )
Another gift-with-purchase I'm letting go of. This is a grey-purple colour that is allover ok, but like I said - I prefer black, so this has no purpose in my collection.
Chantecaille Just Skin Anti-Smog Tinted Moisturiser SPF 15 in 'Bliss' 50g ( here )
Spoiler alert! This is part of my use-it-up project, and I finally finished it just at the very end of March. I adore this tinted moisturiser, and while I'm not sure it's worth the hefty price tag, it's a nice product nonetheless. It doesn't cover much, just evens out the skintone, but it's magic is in the finish as it's so skin like. If you've got really good skin, or don't care about covering up everything this is a really nice one. A perfect "Sunday option".
Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Flawless Wear Concealer in 02 Light Medium 7ml ( here )
This is a product I was trying to use up, but I think it expired on me. There's just a bit left at the bottom though, so it's not a complete fail. This is a really good concealer and was one of my favourites for a while. It covers well with excellent staying power, and is one I won't re-purchase now as I prefer the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer, but wouldn't mind buying again either.
Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder in '1' 4g ( here )
This one I've actually used up completely "organically"! I didn't try to finish it at all, but here we are. I bought this in New York which is almost two years ago now, and have since used it pretty much every time I've done my makeup, to set my undereye concealer and sometimes my eyeshadow base. I love this and am definitely re-purchasing.
Nars Orgasm Blush 4.8g ( here )
I bought this ages ago and never really liked it. It was a very hype-indused purchase, which I've since learned it best to try and avoid. It's more peach than it looks here as you blend the gold and pink of the blush together, but it's still too much on my pale skin. It's better in the summer, but when I've got more of a tan going on there's still other blushes I have that I love to use more, so there's just simply no place for this in my collection. I'll see if anyone I know wants it, if not I'll just throw it away. I've used more than it looks here though, just to point that out.
This is a really nice shower oil. It's amazing in the winter especially when skin tends to be drier. I also love using this after I've done a scrub. I bought the big size thinking it would be awesome with the pump dispenser. Unfortunately the pump didn't work as it got stuck, so I've had to open it and pour the content out into my hand. I've wasted so much product this way, which has left me somewhat frustrated with the product. I still like it, but I'll probably not buy it again for a while, though maybe next winter.
Cowshed Wild Cow Invigorating Bath & Shower Gel 100ml ( here )
I'm really loving what I've tried from Cowshed so far. I've bought a set of almost all of the shower gels in minis to try all of the scents. This one smells of lemongrass, ginger and rosemary and is really nice - both fresh and soothing at the same time.
Fushi Organic Calendula Oil 100ml ( here )
I've talked about this so much already, I don't even know how many bottles I've been through. I love this. Not as much as the Rosehip Oil, but right after it. It's a very good nutritious oil that doesn't bother the sometimes sensitive and reactive skin on my upper body. I highly recommend giving Fushi products a try!
LUSH Celebrate Body Lotion 225g ( limited edition )
This was part of Lush's christmas collection and I just finished it now. I've not used it exclusively, but quite a lot and am impressed by how long it lasted. It smelled really good and gave the skin this beautiful healthy sheen. I wouldn't mind buying this again next year if they release it again.
review - here )
This smells soo good. I've been saving it and saving it, but finally decided I needed to finish the rest last month. This is summer in a bottle. The scrub isn't the best, as in not the most abrasive, but the scent of this as it fills your entire shower room is just heavenly. I'd love to buy another tube of this if it gets released again this summer.
Caudalie Divine Scrub 50g ( here )
Another body scrub, that smells very nice as well. It has a similar scent that is warm, comforting, but also fresh and uplifting. I love the Divine oil as well from the same line and would love to buy the full-size of this as well as try the Divine candle.
Jason Healthy Mouth Toothpaste 119g ( here )
I wrote last month that I would stop featuring the Jason hand washes in these posts, and now I'm saying the same about the toothpastes. I only really featured them to begin with as not much is said about these and I remember being really unsure about them before trying them myself. I've now posted about them countless times since using it - and still love and re-purchase over and over. I will stop mentioning these now, but assume I'm still using it. If I try anything else exciting (as exciting as toothpaste can be) I'll feature that.
Soap & Glory Hand Dream Super Cream 100ml ( here )
This is a really nice hand cream. It's thicker and very nourishing so it was perfect to get me through winter time. I used it in the daytime, as though it was thicker, it wasn't so much so that it was greasy or sticky. It absorbed well whilst still really treating my usually drier hands. The scent is ok - the "soap and glory scent" - if you've used their products before you'll recognise it instantly.
Essie 'Fiji' Nail Polish ( here )
This one I've just had enough with. I've been on a nail-polish no-buy since the middle of April last year and have been trying to go through the polishes I have and use them all and see if I'd like to keep them or not. Whilst Fiji is a nice colour, it's a very cute almost white pink - the formula is just horrible. It applies super streaky and is so sheer that to cover the first streaky layer you need to add at least two more layers on top. With all of the other great performing nail polish I have I just can't be bothered so I'll see if family/friends would want it or I'll just throw it away.
La Prairie Cellular Hand Cream 15ml ( here )
This is a pretty nice hand cream. Not too thick or heavy and it absorbs well and pretty fast. However, it's not nearly good enough to justify the price tag. Unless you swear by La Prairie products, almost any other hand cream will do a similar job at a much better price.
La Roche-Posay Serozinc 150ml ( here )
This was my last Serozinc for a while until my boyfriend goes back to France. I'm making due without it, but I definitely miss it and can't wait to get another one. Escentual has started stocking this, but won't ship outside the UK - so while the rest of us still have to book a trip to France, anyone residing in the UK are in luck!
Biotherm Biosource Instant Hydration Softening Lotion 125ml ( here )
This is nice enough. It's got a thicker consistency and is gentle on the skin. It feels pretty nutritious, but it's also nothing too special. Overall I do enjoy using it, and hope I get more samples like this in the future.
Origins Out of Trouble 75ml ( here )
I got this a while back as part of a three-piece set. It was a really good deal, and out of the three masks that came in it this has been my absolute favourite among them. I've been trying to clear out my masks lately and decided to start focusing on this one as it had the least left. It's a white clay mask meant to do the "usual" clay mask stuff - clear pores and reduce oil production. It does a fantastic job of keeping skin clear and bright, without stripping it completely. I always do follow this with a really moisturising serum/oil and moisturiser combo.
Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré 30ml ( here )
I have to say I don't really get the hype surrounding this. I will say it gives a very nice finish to the skin - a nice sheen, and it's a good base for makeup. On the skincare front though, I don't feel like it does much, and certainly nothing impressive. If I find myself out of moisturiser in Paris at some point I'd be happy to buy another tube and use it, but for now I'll go with something else. I'll put it this way; it's nice, but I'm happy I went for the 30ml size.
Kanebo Sensai Cellular Performance Total Lip Treatment 1ml ( here )
This is fantastic! I use this as a base, kind of a lip primer. I apply it after my face primer and let it absorb and do it's magic while I do the rest of my face. I dab it all over my lips, but also along the contours. This nourishes the lips and I find it really makes my lips appear fuller and more voluminous. Any lip product I use on top goes on more smooth and even, and I find sinks into lip lines much much less, if not at all. I've got more samples like this to go through, but once they are gone I'll buy the full size of this, definitely!
Clinique Superbalm Lip Treatment 7ml ( here )
This is a really good lip balm! It's a super thick balm-oil type lip balm that is sticky and greasy and amazing for dry lips. I would apply this before bed and the next morning it would still be on. For my always dry lips this was pretty amazing. If you are looking for something really intense, give this one a try.
Clinique Superdefense SPF 20 Age Defence Eye Cream 15ml ( review - here )
This was my favourite eye cream for a while, mostly due to it having SPF 20, which was the highest I had found in an eye cream at the time. I've since discovered the Supergoop Advanced Anti-Ageing Eye Cream SPF 37 which I prefer both for it's higher SPF and as a superior eye cream overall. However, if Supergoop isn't available where you live - I'd still recommend this Clinique one!
Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye 15ml ( review - here )
This is my second or third bottle of this. I go through one in about 8 months I think. Although this is a pretty new product, it's already been discontinued by being updated into a "new and better version". I've already go the new version which I'm excited to try. I'm a bit nervous though, as I've loved this one so I really hope the new one is just as good, if not even better which would be amazing!
Michael Kors Sporty Citrus Eau de Parfum 1.5ml ( here )
This is a pretty standard fresh citrus scent. It's nothing too special and not something I will be buying, but it's nice. If you love Michael Kors and want a fresh summer scent, this could be a good one.
Aesop Remove 0.75ml ( here )
I've used the full size of this in the past and it left me very underwhelmed. It's really oily and whilst this makes it very nurturing for the delicate skin around the eyes, it's pretty terrible at removing mascara. This makes you have to rub at your lashes more than with a more efficient remover, which kind of cancels out the otherwise nurturing bonus effect.
La Prairie Cellular Eye Contour Cream 3ml ( review - here )
This is very nice. I've owned the full-size of this as well. It's thicker, but I tend to take some on the back of my hand and warm it up and pat product from there onto the eye area. This is really moisturising, but without being too thick. I've used this as my night time eye treatment, but have used it during the day sometimes as well and it works ok under makeup. If the skin around your eyes is really dry then this would be perfect during the day. If you can get a sample of this you should, it's really good stuff!
