Review: Sarah Chapman Overnight Facial
The famous Sarah Chapman Overnight Facial. So many bloggers and youtubers have raved about this, especially on my side of the pond. It's a treatment oil packed full of fancy ingredients meant to give you a healthy and radiant complexion come morning, no matter if you only went to bed a few hours before. That sounds a rather impossible task, but if true, well, I had to check it out.
The Overnight Facial comes in a medium sized brown plastic bottle with a pump. There's no lock-mechanism, which I miss, but otherwise the packaging is very nice. It's plastic, but good quality and sturdy plastic. It doesn't feel cheap. Inside is a potent blend of antioxidants, vitamins, omega oils, flower extracts and something called "Dermaxyl peptide" and "Renovage". The latter two are trademarked, so are exclusive to the brand, I assume. It also has a blend of the essential oils jasmine, frangipani, rose and tuberose.
The texture of the oil is thicker, but not at all heavy feeling. Not unless you put too much. You don't need much at all. I dab a bit on my forehead, cheeks and chin, and then pat it across the rest of my face and down my neck. It gives an instant radiance, like most oils do, but it's not super oily and it doesn't feel heavy on the skin or make skin feel congested. It's too oily to wear during the day, but for just the evening around the house and sleeping, it's perfect.
Come morning I always wake up to skin that feels balanced. It's not dry or dehydrated, oily, congested or dull looking. This really is sleep in a bottle! Whatever my skin felt lacking of the evening before, it feels a lot better after a night of using this. It also makes my skin feel incredibly soft. Did I mention the smell? This is probably the best smelling skincare product I have ever smelled, yes ever! And that's coming from someone who's used a lot of expensive skincare. It's intoxicating, and quite a treat all on it's own.
I love using this when time has run away from me and I really need to get to bed quickly. As I use this in place of both a serum and night cream it makes my skincare routine a lot faster. I also especially love it when I have a lot to do and am feeling stressed and tired and worn out. I'd call this the perfect "Thursday product". Those days when you are really tired, it's starting to show, and you need a bit of a pick-me-up to get you through that last day. After applying it the scent is quite soothing in itself, and by next morning you'll have glowing and hydrated skin, which I know always puts me in a bit of a better mood.
I also love to take this on trips where I'm only staying one night. Partly because it's a 2-in-1 product and that let's me bring one less product, but also because it's fool proof. There's never a time when this doesn't work a treat with my skin. As I find it also evens out skintone, it lets me feel comfortable to wear a lot less, or skip entirely, makeup the next day.
Expensive as it is, and for all the other face oils I've come to love and depend on - I'll have to add this to the re-buy pile as well. It's such a treat to use, and gives great results every time I use it. I would hate to be without it now.
