Review: Aesop Parsley Seed Cleansing Oil

Since trying Aesop's products I've truly fallen in love with the brand. There's quite a few great offerings from the brand, both skincare and body care. A lot of my favourite products do come from Aesops famous 'Parsley Seed' range. The toner and mask are two of my absolute staples, and no different is the Parsley Seed Facial Cleansing Oil.

The oil comes in typical Aesop packaging; brown glass with a simple cream and black label and a black plastic cap. The dark brown, I assume, is to help protect from light in order to keep the product inside potent for longer.

The actual product is a thicker, brownish yellow oil. It doesn't sound very nice, but I promise you it is. It has the scent typical for Aesop's Parsley Seed range - if you've used the toner (if you haven't, you should!) this smells exactly like that. I tend to describe it as smelling of baked goods and raisins, which is a strange way to describe it, and I'm sure all wrong, but that is seriously what it smells like to me, so what can you do.

Apart from the gorgeous scent, which I've come to almost take for granted when it comes to Aesop's products (they are probably the best all-around smelling products you can get), the performance of the product is what makes this a favourite (as it should be). In the past I've tried numerous cleansing oils as I enjoy how they quickly remove all traces of makeup by simply rubbing this gently across the face and eyes, and then washing it off. The problem has been that either they don't actually get rid of too much, leave all the mascara on, or gets in my eyes and sting or give me blurry vision that's still there the next morning. Obviously too much of a fuzz to bother with.

Enter this oil. I had pretty much given up on cleansing oils, but I got a sample of this and after just one use I was pretty much sold. This didn't sting or burn my eyes, didn't give me blurry vision, and removed every last trace of makeup in one quick move. It was amazing. The nourishing oil also left my skin feeling clean, but not stripped, and really comfortable afterwards. How could it get any better?

The answer is it can't really. I've since tried samples of other cleansing oils here and there, but all of them are so subpar to this I hardly even bother anymore. This is very expensive for something to just remove your makeup, I agree. But it does last forever - I've had my current bottle since Fall! You can also absolutely use it as an everyday cleanser, for sure. Overall I deem it very much worth it. While I still use and love my Bioderma, having this on hand is just the best when I want to get all my makeup off quickly and move on. If you've ever contemplated trying a cleansing oil - save yourself the time and money and go straight for this one. If you don't like it, you probably just don't like cleansing oils!
