We had quite a crappy summer there for a while, but finally the skies cleared, it stopped raining and I'm wearing shorts and my trusted havaianas. I finally started self-tanning and so has taken the opportunity to pull out my darker and more tan-friendly makeup colours to get some use out of them this year as well. I'm always focused on sun protection, but at this time I'm especially on top of my game and have some GREAT products to tell you about!
Quite the classic by now - I've pulled out my Nars Laguna Bronzer ( here ) this month and I've been loving how it looks. I don't use this the rest of the year as it's too dark for me, but as I've been self-tanning it's now the perfect shade. It's the perfect neutral shade, meaning not at all orange, but it still has a beautiful subtle golden sheen that really emphasises the tan I have and gives a beautiful glow to the face.
Another Nars favourite is the Nars Blush in Luster ( here ). I really should use this more all year round, but I keep thinking of it as a summer-only product cause it's very orange leaning. On the cheeks though, it's not orange, but gives more of a super natural, warm-toned flush to the cheeks. It's just such a perfect shade I can't believe I don't use this everyday, all year round. I've been making a point to switch my blusher (and most of my makeup) at least once a week, because I tend to fall into habits, but for the last three weeks I just couldn't switch out Luster. It's SO GOOD! If you haven't tried it yet, YOU MUST!
My favourite perfumer the past month has definitely been Hermes Jour d'Hermes Absolu Eau de Parfum 50ml ( here ). I don't enjoy it for most of the year, but the second the weather gets warm I can't get enough of it. It smells of apricot blossom, jasmine sambac, gardenia, grapefruit, oakmoss and with some floral and wood notes as well. To my nose it's an incredibly sophisticated, warm fruity floral that really has to be smelled to be understood. It doesn't sound all that special, but I still find it quite unique.
I've been kidding myself saying I was going to start self-tanning tomorrow, and then the next day and so on since the end of April. Finally, this month I decided to start and as always, I wonder why I don't do this all year round. As much as I am on top of my sunscreen, I LOVE a good tan and letting go of that has been quite hard for me. Especially as it's such a part of Norwegian culture to get a tan in summer. It's crazy here, you have no idea. But then again - I can just apply this Guerlain Terracotta Sunless Tinted Self-Tanning Gel ( here ) at night with an application mitt, let it dry before going to bed and then wake up just as tan as everyone else - without the damaged skin or risk of cancer. There are no streaks, the tan is full-on, my skin isn't dry or ruined from it as it's infused with oils to also treat the skin.. It also lasts for ages and smells of delicious monoi flowers. If you are looking for a new self-tanner - get this, it's my all-time favourite! I get it every year and I can't recommend it enough!
So as mentioned I take my sun protection very seriously, but when it comes to re-applying throughout the day I just don't. This is entirely because I'm wearing makeup, and there's just no way. Enter the Chantecaille Protection Naturelle SPF 46 PA+++ Powder ( here ). It's super expensive, but you only need a tiny bit each time so it will last you forever. You can also buy re-fills which are a lot cheaper. I basically keep this in my hand bag and dust a bit of powder across my face every couple of hours, or if I feel I need it. It goes on completely invisible - you can't see it even if you try! It doesn't disturb makeup, make you look 'flat', over-powdered or cakey - it is literally invisible. It's incredible!
Another sun protection product, but hey, it's summer! The Supergoop Hand Cream with Sea Buckthorn Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 40 PA +++ ( here ) is the best hand cream ever simply because it's got an SPF 40 which is the highest I've ever seen in a hand cream. The hand cream itself has a silicone like texture, meaning it's not at all greasy and perfect for daytime wear. It's not super moisturising - but for SPF 40 I barely care. Until I find any hand cream with higher SPF this is my firm favourite. I can't believe it's taking other brands so long to get around to putting SPF in their hand creams. Hands are the first to age as they are always exposed to the sun and when they do there is literally nothing you can do about it, so keeping the skin here protected is really important, and that's never been easier than with just applying and re-applying this hand cream!
