Review: La Mer The SPF 50 UV Protecting Fluid
You all probably know my love for La Mer by now, and following finding my favourite night cream and lip balm from the brand, trying another everyday product from the brand seemed like a logical next step. I'm an SPF everyday kinda gal, and so I decided to try their SPF 50 on a bit of a whim, but I am so happy I did.
The sunscreen comes in, typical of La Mer, simple white plastic packaging with a silver plastic lid. I appreciate the packaging being super light-weight and easily portable. The lid rotates off, so it's not super fool-proof, but I've never had a problem with it accidentally opening or leaking, and I've taken it with me on several travels, both in a suitcase and carry-on.
Texture-wise the product is really light and fluid, but not super runny. It's thicker than for example the La Roche-Posay Anthelios Fluid for those of you familiar with that. I need a 'blob' about the size of my thumb-nail to cover my whole face and neck. It's lasted me since last fall when in rotation with another sunscreen as well.
The reason I use another sunscreen at the same time is that this doesn't absorb super quickly, and so I like to have one that does on hand for days when I need to get ready really quickly. However, I can just use a bit of primer on top of this, and I have no problem with it interfering with my makeup, so it doesn't have to be an issue.
What I love most about this is the amazing glow it gives. This is the best thing ever to use on days when I am using no makeup, as it makes my skin look incredible. There is no white-cast at all and the glow lasts all day. It's not the oil-slick glow, it's actual glow - the La Mer glow, which anyone else that uses their moisturiser will be familiar with.
I find this also moisturises a bit and helps my skin in the same ways the classic moisturiser does (that I use as a night cream). Less so, of course, but it still has a similar effect on the skin. I already mentioned the amazing glow, a bit of moisturising and it also helps with calming of redness and a sense of relief if my skin isn't feeling or looking it's best.
This doesn't take hours to absorb fully, just around 15-20 minutes for me, but of course this changes according your skin type (I have normal to dry/dehydrated skin). After it's absorbed there's no greasiness, just incredibly healthy perfectly looked after looking skin. If you've got oily or combination/oily skin I wouldn't recommend this. If you've got dry skin, combination/dry or even normal skin, especially skin that is looking a bit dull - I would definitely recommend this. If you in addition prefer wearing little to no makeup, perhaps loves skipping foundation all together, then you need this. I would call this more of a skin perfector with the additional bonus of SPF 50.
