The first month of the year has flown by already and it's time for me to show you what products have impressed me the most so far in this brand new year. January has been very cold, dark and included my birthday at the end. As much as I love staying inside with a nice candle burning, watching youtube videos and making really good winter food, I can't wait for the weather to get at least a bit warmer. Mostly I am excited to finally have a bit of natural sunlight soon!
I'll start this one off with my most used perfume last month by far; La Prairie Midnight Rain Eau de Parfum Spray ( here ). I'm still really enjoying the vanilla-heavy gourmand scents and Midnight Rain has notes of vanilla orchid, guava, patchouli, musk and mandarin, among others. It's a beautiful gourmand that is sweet and feminine, but still very sophisticated and grown up.
I was surprised to realise I haven't written a review on this yet, so that's gone on my to-do list. I picked up the Nars All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation in Light 2 Mont Blanc ( here ) last year right after it was released and loved it. It's a very interesting formula. You really only need two tiny drops to cover your entire face. It's got really good coverage, yet the consistency is light on the skin, meaning you can't feel it, and it looks really natural. Not as natural as a tinted moisturiser, but in terms of foundations with better coverage this looks fantastic and is absolutely day-time appropriate.
And now I bring to you, a drug store product! Not something I frequently write about on the blog, or own, for no reason other than the price difference in Norway between drugstore and high-end isn't that big, and so I'd kind of always pay 30% more for a Chanel version of just about anything. Either way, this is a fantastic product! I've heard bloggers and youtubers rave about the Loreal Telescopic Mascara ( here ) for years, yet never got around to trying it. Well, I have now and I understand the hype. It's quite an original product, the wand is incredibly small, almost just a straight stick with tiny bristles and it applies the mascara beautifully. This gives me long lashes, allows me to add some definition just at the roots and it holds a curl really well.
The cold winter weather has wreaked havoc on my already constantly dry lips, but the Clarins Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil in 01 Honey and 02 Raspberry ( here ) have come to the rescue. I've used Honey mostly at home, and Raspberry when I am "out and about". Raspberry doesn't really give any colour, but I find it does tint the lips a bit, at least a bit more than the yellow. Either way, my lips have been in such good condition the past month, I can't even remember the last time they were this soft and not at all dry-feeling, even when the climate has been a lot milder. Raspberry was released as a limited edition item last winter, but have since become permanent so you can pick one up now if you haven't already.
Finally I have a skincare item. The Aesop Parsley Seed Anti-Oxidant Hydrator ( here ) has served me really well the past month. This is a lighter moisturiser in feel, which one would naturally assume wouldn't be enough for my normal/dehydrated leaning skin in -15 celsius weather. But don't let the texture fool you. This does balance my skin out beautifully, keeping it hydrated, but without making my skin oily throughout the day. It's also packed full of anti-oxidants which has given my skin back a much needed healthy glow.
