Favourites: August 2016

After having almost the whole of July off work, August meant going back to work for me, and you'll notice a theme through this post of focusing on office-friendly items. The weather has been still nice here, but we had a week with all rain, giving a nice preview of what's to come. I personally love the fall and colder weather, so I quite loved getting my candles back out and making big pots of tea. Makeup-wise I haven't quite started wearing the darker fall colours yet. I am still doing the whole summery light and natural thing, but I am excited to get the vampy lip colours out soon. For now, here are my August favourites with a nice mix of summer and fall-esque things!

First off I have a rediscovered old gem; the Chanel Les 4 Ombres in 214 Tissé Mademoiselle ( here ). I absolutely loved this when I first got it, so much that I added another quad from the line to my collection. This has been my go-to this past month to use at work. It's perfect for it. The colours have a slight sheen, but it's super subtle so even the most conservative offices wouldn't mind this. I've been using all the shades - left top and bottom as lid shades, top right as an inner corner highlight and the darkest shade, bottom right, as very natural eyeliner. I've been adding a matte crease shade, but other than that this is basically all I've been using when going to work. If you are looking for a go-to palette you can just dip back into every morning without much fuss, I highly highly recommend this one.

The perfume I've been rocking this month is the Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire Eau Fraiche ( here ). It's a beautiful lighter scent, but still very sophisticated. Despite being an Eau Fraiche, this lasts all day. It's a perfect office scent as it's very unlikely to offend any noses. There are notes of pistachio, almonds, citrus, bergamot, mandarin, freesia, orange blossom, patchouli, tonka beans, musk, vanilla and several berries. It's a simple-to-the-nose scent, yet a special one all at the same time.

Some more makeup items I've loved the past month is this lip duo of the Tom Ford Lip Color in 07 Pink Dusk ( here ) and the iconic Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat Lipliner in Pillow Talk ( here ). Pillow Talk is just a slight bit darker and gives my lips some much needed definition to pull of a more nude-leaning lip, like Pink Dusk is. It's another perfect for work lip duo as it gives some definition to the lips, and definitely looks more put together than nothing, but it's still very non-offensive and muted.

For skincare I haven't been using much new stuff as I'm really trying to use up my lighter more summer-appropriate skincare. I'd like to have all that cleared out for when winter hits and I need more intensively moisturising and nourishing items. One of my newer skincare bits that I haven't talked about before though, is the Filorga Hydra Filler ( here ). This is a moisturiser I've used as a night cream. It's beautifully light in consistency, goes on really smoothly, absorbs well and doesn't leave any residue, no greasy, oily nothing. If anything I'd call it a velvet finish - beautifully radiant, not in any way shiny. Still it moisturises my skin perfectly, and come morning I have plump, hydrated and glowing skin. I'm using it as a night cream currently as my skin doesn't need a lot of moisture at the moment, but this is definitely one I think I could use as a daytime moisturiser in the winter.

Finally I have a candle. I haven't used my candles for a while as I don't typically use them when the weather is warmer. We've had a spout of darker rainy days here, and so I was excited to pull out some of my candles again. This one, the Diptyque Opopanax ( here ) smells heavenly. It's a kind of vanilla gourmand warm scent that simply needs to be experienced. As you can tell I'm almost finished with this, and this will definitely be one I'll re-purchase to burn all through the winter season. It's a comforting  and relaxing beautiful scent with notes of opopanax, balsamic and vanilla.
